1.congregate（集合する）

2. quell（鎮圧する、鎮める）

3. linger（いつまでも残る、残存する）

= The smell of the fire lingered in the air.

4. savor（～を存分に楽しむ、満喫する）

= We savored the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel.

5. hamper（妨げる、妨害する）

= The search for survivors was hampered by poor visibility.

6. denounce（～だと公然と非難する）

= The novel was denounced as immoral.

7. rebut（反論する）

= The defendant rebulted the testimony of the witness.
